Galway

Spent the last two days in Galway, lovely city. Small city with two main streets that are mostly full of tourists and small shops. Overall, very cute and Irish. Today the three of us took a tour of the southern region of Co. Galway and Co. Clare. Burren its called, and barren it is. But its full of limestone karst topography and shows what the Irish call "grike", land that collapsed due to underground erosion. THere are only two above ground rivers, and we saw one of them: it was completely dry. We also saw the cliffs of moher-stunning. Ran into Irish girls and mum who saiad that the site had become much safer in the recent year, but we were still mostly frightened of the towering cliffs over the roaring teal blue sea. Beautiful, by a field of cows (babies included). Later, once back in Galway, we ate at McDonagh's, which is a must-see in gALWAY, and I ordered cod& chips (WITH VINIGAR AND SALT OF COURSE). It was way too much food, but delicious. WE came back to our fantastic hostel and got ready for an evening of trad-or traditionlal irish music. We found a cute little place called The Crane Bar, ordered Beamish, and heard two fiddlers before they were overwhelmed by a country band upstairs. As is polite, we slowly finished our drinks, then left to try another place. UNfortunately, most of Galway was filled with tourists for the motorboat fest., so there werem't many trad bars open. Tomorrow I take the bus to my first WWOOF hosts in Tobercurry. Peter sounded incredibly sweet on the phone and I'm very excited to live with them.Looking forward to the real Irish life.
